Behind every project are people who bring their own knowledge, experience, and perspective. In our Meet the Team series, we would like to introduce the people involved in Spark-AI and the expertise they bring to the project.
We begin with Dr. Iwona Leonowicz-Bukała, Dean of the Faculty of Media and Social Communication at UITM.
Her academic background combines political science, cultural studies, and journalism. Her research focuses primarily on digital communication, social media, and migration studies, with particular attention to how digital media shape the way we communicate and understand the world around us.
Dr. Leonowicz-Bukała has extensive experience in researching social media algorithms and digital ecosystems, supported by empirical studies of contemporary media dynamics and migrant representation. Her work combines data-driven research with a broad social sciences perspective and covers areas including gender, health, migration, mediatization, and changes in ethnic media.
Alongside her research, she is strongly involved in working with students and young researchers. As a tutor, academic supervisor, and coordinator of student research clubs, she supports the development of the next generation of communicators and researchers.
This combination of research experience, knowledge of digital media, and work with students brings an important social perspective to the Spark-AI project.
This is the first introduction in our Meet the Team series. More members of the Spark-AI team will be featured soon.
