About SPARK-AI
SPARK-AI (Skills and Practices for AI-Driven Research Knowledge) is a forward-looking European initiative designed to empower early-career researchers with the competencies, tools, and confidence to thrive in an AI-driven research ecosystem. Implemented over 36 months (October 2025 – September 2028), the project responds to the accelerating digital transformation of academia by embedding Artificial Intelligence directly into research practice. SPARK-AI combines advanced training pathways, tailored mentorship, and the development of AI-powered research assistant tools to enhance efficiency, creativity, and methodological rigor across disciplines. Beyond technical upskilling, the project actively promotes AI literacy, critical thinking, and responsible innovation, ensuring that emerging scholars apply AI technologies in an ethical, transparent, and trustworthy manner.
The expected impact of SPARK-AI is both immediate and long-term. At the individual level, young researchers will gain practical expertise in leveraging AI for literature analysis, data processing, research design, and scientific dissemination, strengthening their competitiveness in the European and global research landscape. At the institutional level, participating universities will benefit from scalable training frameworks, reusable Open Educational Resources, domain-specific AI models, and an intelligent matching and recommendation system designed to personalise research development pathways. At the European level, SPARK-AI will contribute to building a digitally resilient academic community, fostering cross-border collaboration, and advancing excellence in AI-integrated research. By equipping a new generation of scholars with strategic AI competencies, SPARK-AI positions Europe at the forefront of responsible, innovative, and technology-enhanced research
